DOT physical examinations

I’m a driver. What should I expect from the new regulations? Your health history will be carefully reviewed during your DOT physical exam.

The physical exam will include:
  • Past or recent illnesses and injuries
  • Vision acuity
  • Hearing disorders
  • Heart disorders
  • High blood pressure
  • Muscular weakness or disease
  • Diabetes
  • Digestion
  • Respiratory problems
  • Lung, kidney, liver, and nervous system health

You must meet all of the health requirements in order to pass your DOT physical exam.

Keep the following in mind before your DOT physical visit:
  • Insurance does not cover this exam - some employers may cover/reimburse for it.
  • Here is a list of items to bring that may be helpful:
    • Glasses if vision requires a prescription
    • Last MER Card
    • List of medications with dosages
    • Yearly clearance letter from Cardiologist-  Other chronic conditions may require additional paperwork before Medical Clearance is issued, as well
    • Current CPAP usage (Last 90 days) If you use a CPAP Machine - For convenience, you can have your CPAP information faxed to us prior to your exam (315) 713-4667
  • *$175*

*If a patient requires a sleep study as determined by the provider, there will be an additional $25 charge due to the paperwork/prior authorization involved. If you have already had a sleep study done and use a CPAP machine, we will need your last 90 days usage. It can be faxed to: (315) 713-4667
